The evolution of a "sugar fanatic"
“Dessert is wonderful; and a great tasting one is even better”. With this approach Jan’s Sweet Sensations was born. This wholly owned, sole proprietorship received its’ initial DBA licensing on February 18, 2004. Janette considers her baking ability to be a gift from “God” because she is self-taught. She also attributes that ability to researching countless recipes and infusing them with her own special touch. She comes from a long family line of great cooks and bakers that include her grandmother, Leola Davis, mother Mary Davis-Gooden, dad James R. Gooden, Jr., her aunt Jewel Davis-Jenkins and a host of relatives with great cooking skills. Watching cooking shows on television also enhanced her skills. With words of encouragement from family and friends, Jan decided to market her cookies to a select few which ultimately led to the start of a business venture. During that time Jan also decided to return to school to obtain her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Management in addition to Doctoral coursework in Higher Education and Adult Learning but the sweet spot was and has continued to be her passion for baking. In Spring 2018 Jan was accepted and graduated from the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business' SURE Program for Entrepreneurs.
Owner Janette Gooden-Martin prides herself on ensuring that the business revolves solely around her customers. Every order, whether large or small, receives “star” treatment. The best ingredients are used in preparing the desserts to include Madagascar Vanilla and Vietnamese Cinnamon to name a few. Customers are randomly requested to complete a satisfaction survey which is used for quality control purposes.
